I hope nobody ever looks at that tree and says, “Let’s make a perfume out of that.”

I pray to God that they don’t because it’s my number one pet peeve. I hate that tree. They were all over my school when I went to school.

Are there any perfumes or notes that give you the ick?

I don’t love a pumpkin, when it’s a pumpkin-y cinnamon. Not my fave. Disgusting. I have a hand wash at my house that’s pumpkin spice, and it just makes me sick to my stomach.

On the flip side, what perfumes or notes will make you chase a person down the street?

I’m not even just saying this, but I really do love the NOYZ Sh**ty Day. It feels very woody and clean. It feels very like something that someone who you’d describe as quiet luxury would wear.

NOYZ Sh**ty Day Eau de Parfum

Let’s get into some rapid-fire fragrance Dos and Don’ts: body spray.

Body spray? No. I feel like you can go with cologne or perfume, or I feel like that’s the same thing, actually. I don’t know. I just don’t see the point in it. It feels like I’m coming back from middle school gym class.

Secretly spraying your date’s pillow with your fragrance?

I love that. Yes. Love. They will smell you, and they’ll remember you. It’s sneaky. I like it.

The department store fragrance aisle?

I hate the department store fragrance aisle more than anything in the world. It’s an overkill of smells. It makes me sick, so no. We’re avoiding.

Using fragrance as deodorant?

No, no, no. We can not use fragrance as deodorant. I knew someone that did that. They smelled like shit. It was disgusting. No. You need an antiperspirant. I can’t emphasize that enough.

Fragrance sample bottles you get in a magazine or in the mail?

I used to love fragrance sample bottles in a magazine when I was a kid, but if I like it, I want more of it and I want more of it right now. Wait, yes—I don’t even know why I’m debating this—yes, I love free stuff.

Layering fragrances?

I love to layer fragrances. You know how people do a lip combo? I love a fragrance combo. Jérôme Epinette, when I was in France with him, taught me how to layer perfumes. He taught me about all the nose, why it was important to layer perfumes, and how it’s unique and stuff. We ended up layering Sh**ty Day and Lost + Found, and it smelled so good.

Are there any fragrance layering tips that you can share with the class?

Not everyone’s going to like your layering situation, but some people will really like it and that’s important. I would personally cry if someone didn’t like my fragrance, but well, I give better advice than I practice.
