Whether you’re a die-hard fan or just there for the food, vibes, and warm weather, a day at the ballpark is an easy summer activity. But figuring out what to wear to a baseball game can often be tricky, especially if you want to strike that perfect balance between sporty and stylish.
When you plan your outfit, start by checking the weather. Most baseball stadiums are open-air (meaning there’s no roof to protect you from rain or wind), so you may need to bring a light sweater or jacket depending on the month (baseball season is typically from early April to late September). Other than that, there’s no official Major League Baseball dress code, which means there’s definitely room to reflect your own personal style.
To help you figure out what to wear to a baseball game, Glamour senior beauty editor and lifelong New York Mets fan Ariana Yaptangco took a trip to Citi Field in Flushing, Queens, to watch her team in action and ask the most stylish fans about their game-day outfits. The general consensus? Comfort is key, but that doesn’t mean your outfit needs to be boring. Most fans built their look around a bold statement piece—like a designer bag, moto boots, or velour tracksuit—paired with team gear like a hat, jacket, or T-shirt.

“Team merch is fun to style because it’s oftentimes really eye-catching and has bright colors like the Mets, who wear orange and blue,” says Yaptangco. “It’s all about balancing those elements with your own personal style, and making sure the outfit is comfortable and functional. Also, layers are important even in the summertime. Ballparks can get really windy, especially if you’re high up in the stands. You can experience being really hot and really cold all in one game.”
Jennie Toutoulis, a Mets fan and public relations manager at Charlotte Tilbury, agrees, noting that baseball games can often run long hours: “You never know how long nine innings will take or if you’ll go into extra innings,” she says. “My bag is typically my black everyday Coach shoulder bag—I’m the mom friend of the group and always carrying the ballpark necessities.”
Not a superfan? You don’t have to show up to the game looking like you play for the team. “There are definitely ways to dress for the occasion without having team merch,” says Toutoulis. “The easiest way is to incorporate the team colors into your outfit. It’s also a great time to wear some more elevated athleisure—a cute exercise dress with a baseball hat is definitely on my list of outfits to wear for summer games, and it’s likely already in your closet. Streetwear also works in a stadium, but you won’t find anyone in heels the way you would at a basketball game.”

Most baseball stadiums allow bags (check your ballpark’s specific size restrictions), so why not flex with a designer find? A bold statement jacket like a classic letterman or rhinestone-studded bomber adds another fashionable layer, but still keeps things sporty. To balance everything out, opt for simple, clean white pants.

Take the guesswork out with a matching tracksuit (bonus points if it’s a blinged-out, velour set from Juicy Couture). Throughout the season, most ballparks host themed games that you can also pull outfit inspiration from. This fan celebrated Hello Kitty Night by repping the Sanrio character along with a vintage tee and trucker hat.
